WASHINGTON, DC – Trammell Crow Company is pleased to announce that Market Square has received ULI Washington’s Legacy Award yesterday during the second annual Real Estate Trends Conference Awards Program.

Trammell Crow Company delivered Market Square, a 700,000-square-foot trophy mixed-use property located at 701 and 801 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, in 1991. The complex consists of twin 13-story buildings with ground floor retail, eight floors of office, and four floors of residential condos that curve majestically inward to frame the U.S. Navy Memorial. The two freestanding buildings occupy more than two city blocks and feature unobstructed, panoramic views of the US Capitol Building, Washington Monument, Archives of the United States, and the National Mall.

“When Trammell Crow Company broke ground on Market Square over 29 years ago, we were determined to deliver a quality development meant to stand the test of time, and receiving the prestigious “Legacy Award” has confirmed that we have done so,” said Chris Roth, President, Eastern Operations for Trammell Crow Company. “

Market Square has had a transformational impact on its surrounding community for more than two decades. The development was the first, and largest, mixed-use development within Penn Quarter and was the catalyst to begin the improvement of Chinatown, as well as other neighborhoods to the east of the project.

Market Square was also awarded ULI’s “Project of the Year” Award in 1992.

The “Legacy Award” is presented to a development project that has had a transformational impact on its community or surrounding land uses for more than two decades in a manner aligned with ULI’s mission and core values. Award winners exemplify excellence in urban design, can be characterized as truly sustainable, and represent the best of what makes the Washington region unique.
